The Future of FX Synergy

FX Synergy was originally designed due to the lack of features in MT4, however it has always been our plan to include support for multiple platforms, and not only support MT4. We get requests every week from traders using other platforms who wish to use FX Synergy in their trading, so we are very much aware of the need to support multiple platforms. Until last week, we had focused primarily on adding features, as we have a long list of feature we’d like to add before adding multiple platforms.

Earlier this year we released a beta version of FX Synergy 1.5, which connects directly to the broker’s MT4 server, just as the MT4 terminal does. This offers one major advantage: If you are trading multiple accounts you don’t need to have an MT4 terminal running per account. Secondly, if you are a scalper, it shaves off a few milliseconds in execution time. We have been working on finalizing FX Synergy 1.5 for the past 2 months, so we could release it officially.

Direct Connection Issues

MetaQuotes have recently stated that they don’t want any 3rd party developers connecting directly to MT4 servers, and they are actively doing everything they can to prevent it. They changed their API back in March, and again last week, to disrupt anyone doing so. This forced our developers to work round the clock for 10 days straight, updating direct connection in FX Synergy 1.5.

The question is, why are they doing this? MetaQuotes recently launched a signal service platform built-in to the MT4 terminal, and they are charging hefty fees for using it, so they want to make sure nobody else is offering the same service, think ZuluTrade and others. MetaQuotes have already stated that they don’t want brokers to work with myfxbook, ZuluTrade, etc. Essentially anyone offering signal services where the client isn’t required to have the MT4 terminal running, because the signal provider is connecting directly to the clients MT4 account.

FX Synergy Will Always Work

FX Synergy obviously doesn’t have anything to do with a signal service, however MetaQuotes are very clear, they don’t want anyone but MetaQuotes using direct connection in their products. We feel that it’s only a matter of time before they will implement certain changes to the way the API works, which will make it virtually impossible for anyone else to connect directly to the MT4 server. Did you know that the primary reason MT4 is so popular, is because of 3rd-party developers enriching and enhancing the MT4 platform? MetaQuotes have a truly bizarre way of thanking us.

It’s very important to keep in mind that this doesn’t mean that FX Synergy will stop working. The template connection used in FX Synergy 1.4.2 will always work, as it connects to the MT4 terminal, however the template connection is not part of FX Synergy 1.5, as it only has direct connection. We are now working on adding the template connection to FX Synergy 1.5 as well, so both options are available, however we can’t guarantee how long direct connection will continue to work for the reasons stated above.

Supporting Multiple Platforms

Due to the recent actions of MetaQuotes, we have decided to immediately start working on supporting other platforms, and to facilitate this move we are introducing a plugin API in FX Synergy, which will allow anyone to develop plugins for connecting FX Synergy to any trading platform. We will be developing the first plugins to the most widely used and requested trading platforms, and this is where we need your help.

Please use the survey below to tell us which platforms you feel we should support first, and feel free to include any comments. We always appreciate getting your feedback.
